A teenage driver charged by police after a collision that killed a 19-year-old motorcyclist has faced a Melbourne court.

Diesel Handley, 18, made no application for bail in the Melbourne Magistrates Court after he was charged on Sunday following a collision in Burwood East that killed Forest Hill man Darrell Chepseba.

Mr Handley was charged with culpable driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, drive while authorisation suspended and commit indictable offence on bail.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Middleborough Rd and Burwood Highway about 2.30pm.

His lawyer said Mr Handley had an injury to his left eye and needed to see a nurse.

Over the weekend, Kenya Community Victoria posted about Mr Chepseba’s death on Facebook.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing away of Darrell Chepseba in Melbourne, Australia on (Friday) in a tragic road accident along Burwood Hwy,” the post said.

“He is the loving son of Rose Chepseba and brother to Valentine Chebet, all in Melbourne.

“Your financial, spiritual and moral support will be highly appreciated.”

Mr Handley will return to court in May.
